The resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia and several other Asian countries is back in the spotlight. In the 22nd epidemiological week (May 25-31, 2025), the Indonesian Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 7 new cases with a positivity rate of 2.05%. Although this number is relatively low compared to the peak of the pandemic, the increasing trend of cases in areas such as Banten, Jakarta and East Java is an important warning signal. The government has re-activated close monitoring and urged the public to continue implementing health protocols.
Similar increases in cases have also occurred in several Asian countries such as Singapore and Thailand. In Bangkok, the government has tightened social restrictions and accelerated the distribution of booster vaccines. Meanwhile in Singapore, people are asked to avoid crowds and wear masks in public spaces again. This surge shows that although the pandemic has leveled off, COVID-19 still has the potential to become a public health threat in the Asian region if not handled quickly and appropriately.
Responding to this situation, President Prabowo Subianto immediately took decisive action by calling Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to coordinate strategic steps. The government issued a Circular Letter on Vigilance against Increased Cases of COVID-19 on May 23, 2025. These efforts include increasing the capacity of testing laboratories, contact tracing, and educating the public about the importance of continued vaccination and clean and healthy living behaviors.

Common Characteristics of COVID-19 Exposure
Recognize the symptoms of COVID-19 in order to conduct early detection and prevent the spread:
Fever and chills
Dry cough and sore throat
Loss of smell and taste
Muscle pain, headache and fatigue
Shortness of breath (in severe conditions)
How to treat & manage COVID-19
To reduce the impact and speed up recovery, do the following:
Self-treatment (mild - moderate):
Complete rest
Take vitamins C, D, and Zinc
Drink enough water
Take fever-reducing drugs and pain relievers as recommended by your doctor.
For severe cases:
Visit a health facility immediately
Supplemental oxygen and intensive medical supervision required

Preventive Measures:
Wear a mask when doing activities in public places
Keep your distance and avoid crowds
Wash hands with soap or hand sanitizer
Complete vaccinations up to booster
Drink more water and take vitamins
With collaboration between the government, medical personnel, and active community participation, Indonesia and other Asian countries are expected to control the spread of COVID-19 more effectively. Being vigilant does not mean panicking, but acting quickly and appropriately based on valid information from official sources such as the Ministry of Health and WHO.
